A Tale of Two Themes: Mark & Claire’s Sun-Drenched Wedding.

There is a distinct magic to coastal weddings in late May, especially when the British weather decides to play along perfectly. On the 30th of May, the sun blazed over the Dorset coast, setting a spectacular stage for Mark and Claire’s wedding at the iconic, Art Deco-inspired Hotels in Bournemouth.

As a photographer, I am always drawn to the unique energy each couple brings to their day. Mark and Claire designed a celebration that was a beautiful study in contrasts—moving seamlessly from vibrant, unbridled joy to quiet, timeless elegance.

Here is a glimpse into their story.

The Ceremony: A Burst of Rainbow Joy

The day began with an explosion of color. Rejecting the rigid constraints of traditional, muted wedding palettes, Mark and Claire opted for a brilliant rainbow theme for their ceremony.

The atmosphere in the room was electric. Surrounded by a kaleidoscope of colors, the energy was light, deeply personal, and filled with laughter. Capturing these moments in a documentary style means looking past the staging and focusing on the raw emotion—the way Mark looked at Claire as she walked down the aisle, the shared glances between family members, and the unscripted bursts of joy that a colorful setting naturally invites.

Outside, the Bournemouth sun mirrored the warmth inside, bathing the entire ceremony in bright, beautiful light.

The Reception: Classic White & Cream Elegance

Following the vibrant energy of the ceremony, the day beautifully transitioned into something entirely different for the reception. Stepping into the reception space felt like stepping into a classic, editorial dream.

Draped entirely in a white and cream theme, the room was a masterclass in understated elegance. The contrast was stunning. The lively, colorful energy of the afternoon gave way to a sophisticated, relaxed evening. This shift in atmosphere allowed for those quiet, "fly-on-the-wall" moments I love to capture—guests clinking glasses in the soft glow of the evening light, candid laughter cutting through the room, and the effortless connection between the newlyweds as they took it all in.

Presence Over Perfection

What made Mark and Claire’s day so special wasn't just the flawless transition between their two themes, or the beautiful Art Deco backdrop of The Cumberland Hotel. It was their total presence. They weren't performing for the camera; they were entirely caught up in the moments, the people, and each other.

To Mark and Claire—thank you for trusting me to document your beautiful, sun-drenched day. Here’s to a lifetime of color, elegance, and wonderful memories.
